Question

Assalam O Alaikum,

I need some help about the rule of Tajweed to read an Ayah of Surah Yasin. Its the Ayah # 21. It starts with the word Ittabioo. My question is that this Ayah starts with this word and the letter Alif in ITTABIOO does not have a kasrah (Zair) on it. How we decide about the Harkat of a letter in this case. Please guide me.

The letter in question is what is called hamzah al-wasl, , and it is used only when starting on the word, not when reading in continuum with the preceding word. If you have the Medinah Printing Complex copy of the Qur’an you will see a small letter over the alif. In the case of a three letter origin command form of a verb as in the word we look at the third letter, which is the second of the shaddah, and if that letter has a fat-hah or a kasrah on it, the hamzah al-wasl begins with a kasrah. If the third letter of a verb has a original fixed dhammah, then the word is started with a dhammah on the hamzah al-wasl.
